Greyt Inspirations Life

A little about our life, our business and our pets. www.greytinspirations.com

Oh, the joys of living in Ontario, Canada

The weather today is the worst I have seen in years. I am used to snow storms, snow squalls, the cold (as much as you can get used to cccccooold) and winter but today we have severe weather conditions. High winds, blowing snow, flash freeze. At times, we can’t even see the end of our driveway. Almost all the roads in the area are closed. The police are telling motorists to stay home today – not to drive anywhere unless you absolutely have to. All schools are closed. In some towns, all public transportation is off the roads.

Each and every one of our dogs went outside this morning and immediately turned around to come back inside. We had to order them to go pee and they were back inside in a flash (don’t blame them one bit…).

We are both home from work today. The good thing about this, I can get caught up on some Greyt Inspirations work.

Staying home and keeping warm!

Meet Chase

Chase

I am very typical for my breed! I am loyal and gentle with my family. When I met new people I take time to get to know them and since I am bred to protect I will bark at strangers until I know they are OK.

I missed it

I realize now, after spending the past few weeks working with stained glass, how much I loved it. It has been a few years since I have done any stained glass art as I was concentrating on building up Greyt Inspirations, but now that I am back doing some, I realize how much I missed it.

I love being creative; designing and creating beautiful things is so rewarding. I still love designing and creating the dog collars and leashes and get great satisfaction from seeing my ideas come together but it is just so different when you put a stained glass piece of art together from a thought in your mind to a tangible piece.

I am finding that I like doing the bigger pieces much more than I like doing jewelry so I may end up concentrating on things like coasters, tiles and other medium to large pieces.

I’ve decided on…

I’ve decided on two things this weekend.

One, that I will look into the possibility of creating a new website specifically for our stained glass art pieces and stained glass fused jewelry. I’m thinking that I would like to have the Greyt Inspirations website dedicated only to the original intent – pet products. Having a second website specifically dedicated to the stained glass will help both businesses thrive.

Now, on to the research to find a good web host (there are so many out there now that are terrible or have terrible customer service), one that has what I need and all for a reasonable price.

I’m not yet sure what I am going to do with the line of embroidered clothing that Greyt Inspirations has. It is not pet-specific, but it is pet-related…

Not that I really have the time to create a new website and promote it, but I think that separating the two businesses will be a good move.

Blank!

As much as I would love to have something to write about everyday, there are days where it is a struggle just to come up with something to write about – like the past few days.

I have been busy working on new products for the show we will be attending in March.

I have also been  creating a few more “baubles” with fusing stained glass and have a great time with that but as I am still learning what works and what doesn’t, none of my “attempts” are ready for sale but I have figured out that I much perfere creating the “baubles” than putting it together as a piece of jewelry.  I have a few more pieces cooling right now and will post pictures as soon as I get them photographed tomorrow.

Other than that, nothing much new going on here.

Meet Bones

Bones Bones is an adult male Terrier, Dachshund [Mix] and is not a large dog. He is up-to-date with his routine shots and has been neutered.

He is currently waiting at the West Alabama Animal Rescue for his forever home.

Bones was rescued from a shelter where he would have been euthanized because he was Heartworm positive and very skinny, hence the name Bones. He has now fattened up and been through his heartworm treatment and is to be retested on 11/13/07 and,if he test negative, is scheduled to be neutered on 11/15/07. He will be available for adoption after he is neutered. Bones is about 5 yrs old and a real sweetheart. He can be a little tempermental towards other dogs until he feels safe and secure around them. I believe while a stray he was probably wounded by another bigger dog. He is good around other cats and is very social and playful. He also liked to cuddle under the covers in the bed at night. He is crate trained and I think once he is neutered he will do well with his housetraining.

Enjoyment!

Over the past few days, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and am satisfying my creativity. I have been creating fused glass jewelry in the glass kiln that I got for Christmas. It is obvious that I am getting better with each piece that I create and I am Loving every minute of it.

I have a few more pieces in today and can’t wait to see how these turn out. They are even more creative than what I have done in the past few days. The jewelry pieces are not quite up to my standard to place for sale on Greyt Inspirations, but they are getting there.

Want to see what I have done so far in my initial attempts at fused glass jewelry:

Blue Pendant    Green2 Pendant     Orange Pendant      Orange2 Pendant    orange-pendant

I’m  still learning what works and what doesn’t, but having fun while doing so….

Fused Glass

My very first fused glass piece or art. I finally got to try something in my glass kiln this weekend. Although the piece didn’t turn out exactly as planned, I like it. I’ll use it as a glass tile instead of the soap dish it was going to be. I’m still learning but having fun creating as I do so.

Today, I am attempting some abstract earrings. They are in the kiln, cooling at this time and I can’t wait to see how they came out…

Here’s a picture of the glass tile I made yesterday:

What to do

I have a dilema. I have wanted to open a “physical” store and grooming salon for a long time and have been looking for a suitable place for that long.
I recently came across a store/grooming salon that seems to be suitable for me however it would mean another move.  We don’t really want to move, but it will probably be necessary to fulfill my dream.

The hard part is that both myself and my husband would have to quit our jobs, loosing all our “security”. The chances of my husband finding another job (and one that he likes) at his age would not be easy. I know that, eventually, with both of our “talents” we would probably make the business(es) successful (he does stained glass, I have Greyt Inspirations which is becoming successful, and will be adding stained glass jewelry to my line soon). My husband is also skilled enough with stained glass to be able to teach (he is an adult instructor by trade).

Where it becomes a really difficult decision is that my husband loves his current job, we have bills to pay off, a son still in high school, and the location of this store/grooming salon would not be my first pick.

I hate difficult decision and it looks like we have more stacked against making a go of this than going for it but it has been a dream of mine for a long, long time.

What to do…what to do…
